Her Excellency Mrs. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, confirmed that the Kingdom has taken advanced steps in terms of including the principles of sustainability in the implementation of development plans and projects included in the government’s programs, which contributes to supporting the comprehensive development process witnessed by the Kingdom during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad. Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Majestic King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, supports national efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Her Excellency Minister Amna Al Rumaihi said during her participation in the second ministerial meeting on urbanization and climate change within the work of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), hosted by the sisterly United Arab Emirates, that the urban expansion and population growth witnessed by the countries of the world The requirements for achieving the goals of combating climate change necessitate the need to strengthen joint efforts at the local, regional and international levels, to implement sustainable development plans and projects, and modernize planning and housing policies, in line with development goals.

Her Excellency Minister Amna Al-Rumaihi praised the Kingdom’s experience in the field of urban and urban planning and development, in line with the eleventh goal of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, as she confirmed that the government, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, is making continuous efforts. To develop planning standards, to ensure the sustainability of cities by updating the regulatory requirements for urbanization to enhance the demand for agricultural lands. The government was also keen to include the elements of sustainability in all stages of planning and implementing housing city projects. The interest was in environmental aspects and humanizing residential cities by increasing green spaces and providing paths. Designated for walking and cycling to reduce the use of vehicles. On the housing front, the Minister said that the government was keen in designing the housing units to use environmentally friendly materials and designs, including what was implemented in Salman City, which is the largest residential city in the Kingdom.

Her Excellency the Minister added that the Ministry paid attention to preparing waterfronts and public beaches in cities with a coastal nature, modifying the boundaries of reclamation to improve water movement, allocating new sites for mangrove tree cultivation, preserving ecological habitat sites and bird gathering sites, in addition to providing sites for cultivating oysters and their types to improve water quality and provide... Additional resources enhance food security.
Her Excellency the Minister stressed the Kingdom’s continued efforts to enhance sustainability in national plans and programmes, and implement the objectives of the Convention on Combating Climate Change and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, as a priority among the government’s programs and in support of national efforts to reach carbon neutrality by 2060.
After that, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Dinah, Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, and Her Excellency Mrs. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, visited the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pavilion participating in the Climate Summit, where they listened to an explanation about the objectives and components of the exhibition. Praising the national efforts to highlight the Kingdom’s plans and programs to reduce climate change, wishing the participants continued success and progress.
