Housing and Urban Planning Minister Attends Ceremony Honouring Winners of GCC Housing Award and Gulf Housing Hackathon

Her Excellency Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s hosting of the fourth Gulf Housing Week reflects the continued efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to strengthen joint housing cooperation, exchange experiences and expertise, and promote innovation and community partnership, contributing to the development of housing solutions and enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens.Her Excellency made the remarks while attending a ceremony honouring the winners of the seventh edition of the GCC Housing Award, in addition to recognising a number of supporters and contributors to housing development across GCC countries and the student winners of the third edition of the Gulf Housing Hackathon. The ceremony was held as part of the fourth day of the fourth Gulf Housing Week, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain at Exhibition World Bahrain.Minister Al Rumaihi commended the continuous progress witnessed in joint Gulf housing cooperation, noting that Gulf Housing Week has become an important platform bringing together officials, experts, specialists and young people from across GCC countries. She said the event provides a valuable opportunity to exchange successful experiences, showcase innovative solutions and practices, and strengthen cooperation among government entities, the private sector, and academic and community institutions.Her Excellency noted that the GCC Housing Award is one of the key initiatives aimed at promoting excellence and innovation in the housing sector by highlighting pioneering projects and models that offer practical and sustainable solutions. She added that the diversity of the winning projects in the seventh edition reflects the advanced experiences developed across GCC countries, which can be built upon and utilised to further enhance social housing policies and programmes.The ceremony, held in the presence of His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, featured the announcement of the winning projects in the seventh edition of the award, held under the theme “An Integrated Housing Project with Comprehensive Services… Enhancing Quality of Life”.The West Baniyas Residential Project, submitted by the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority of the sisterly United Arab Emirates, won first place and a prize of SAR 200,000. The Sultan Haitham City project, submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning of the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, placed second with a prize of SAR 100,000. The Khayala Residential Destination project, submitted by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, placed third and received a prize of SAR 75,000.Minister Al Rumaihi affirmed that recognising outstanding projects at the Gulf level is particularly important, as it provides an opportunity to learn from successful models and exchange knowledge and expertise among GCC countries. She said this supports joint efforts to provide more efficient and sustainable housing solutions and strengthens the housing sector’s ability to keep pace with citizens’ aspirations and evolving urban, social and economic developments.The ceremony also honoured a number of supporters and contributors in the fields of housing development and community work across GCC countries, in recognition of their contributions to providing adequate housing for eligible families. The Royal Humanitarian Foundation of the Kingdom of Bahrain was honoured for contributing more than BHD 1 million, alongside a number of supporting institutions, initiatives and individuals from GCC countries.The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning expressed pride in the recognition of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation among this distinguished group of Gulf institutions, noting that the honour reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s longstanding approach to humanitarian and community work, as well as the continued attention given to initiatives aimed at supporting family stability and providing adequate housing.At the conclusion of the ceremony, students from GCC countries participating in the third edition of the Gulf Housing Hackathon were honoured. The competition was held under the theme “Innovative Housing Solutions Lab… A Youth Vision for the Housing of the Future”, with the participation of more than 35 male and female students from across GCC countries.Minister Al Rumaihi affirmed that engaging Gulf youth in developing innovative housing solutions represents an important investment in the future of the sector and opens the way for new ideas that harness modern technologies, digital transformation, sustainability concepts and quality of life. She praised the participants for presenting ideas and initiatives that reflect Gulf youth’s awareness of the future challenges and opportunities facing the housing sector.Her Excellency concluded by affirming that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s hosting of the fourth Gulf Housing Week, together with its accompanying meetings and specialised events, reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to actively contributing to the development of joint Gulf cooperation in the housing sector and strengthening the exchange of expertise and experiences among member states in support of shared goals and aspirations.

Eskan Bank Launches “Al Saya Greens” with More Than 2,000 Residential Units, Placing Historic Ain Al Saya at the Heart of the Development

Eskan Bank has announced the launch of “Al Saya Greens,” a major mixed-use development in the Kingdom of Bahrain spanning approximately 560,000 square metres in Al Saya, Muharraq Governorate. The project combines residential, commercial and leisure uses within a modern urban vision inspired by the historic Ain Al Saya, one of the area’s prominent heritage landmarks.As a key step towards implementing the project, Eskan Bank also announced the signing of an agreement with Gulf House Engineering, following the company’s successful bid in the public tender to prepare the master plan and detailed infrastructure design for Al Saya Greens. The agreement paves the way for the completion of the design works and the necessary regulatory approvals.The development will comprise more than 2,000 residential units, including 1,065 apartments and 971 villas, in addition to a commercial boulevard, service facilities, public spaces and open areas designed to enhance quality of life and create an integrated residential environment.The historic Ain Al Saya will serve as a central feature and one of the key elements of the development, positioned at the heart of the commercial boulevard and surrounding public spaces. Eskan Bank has incorporated the historic landmark into the project’s development vision in a manner that preserves its heritage value and strengthens its role as a cultural and community destination for residents and visitors.The project aims to provide a diverse range of housing options and promising investment opportunities, while contributing to commercial activity and supporting sustainable urban development in Muharraq Governorate.Mr. Abdulla Talib, General Manager of Eskan Bank, said: “Al Saya Greens represents a significant step in Eskan Bank’s efforts to develop integrated urban communities that meet citizens’ needs and support sustainable development in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The project will provide more than 2,000 diverse residential units, together with integrated commercial and community facilities, while placing particular emphasis on highlighting the historic Ain Al Saya as one of the key heritage landmarks reflecting the identity and history of the area.”He added that signing the agreement with Gulf House Engineering marks an important step in advancing the project. The company’s expertise will contribute to the preparation of the master plan and detailed infrastructure design in accordance with leading planning and engineering practices, supporting the project’s vision to establish an integrated urban destination combining residential and leisure uses while preserving the site’s distinctive heritage character.Al Saya Greens is expected to contribute to increasing the Kingdom’s housing supply and creating an integrated urban destination that brings together residential and leisure facilities, while revitalising the historic Ain Al Saya as a landmark reflecting the authenticity and rich history of the area. The project is set to represent a distinctive addition to Bahrain’s urban landscape.

This enables citizens and beneficiaries to access their digital needs more easily and quickly, while enhancing effective communication with the Ministry through its electronic channels.Her Excellency added that the website, which was developed by specialised national professionals, contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the Ministry’s digital infrastructure, strengthening information security and data protection, and supporting integration with government digital platforms and services. Kingdom of Bahrain Chairs the 24th Meeting of GCC Housing Ministers

As part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Her Excellency Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, chaired the 24th meeting of GCC ministers responsible for housing and urban planning affairs, hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting brought together Their Excellencies the ministers and officials responsible for the housing sector across GCC member states, in the presence of His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.At the outset of the meeting, Her Excellency the Minister welcomed Their Excellencies the ministers and participating delegations, affirming that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues to place significant emphasis on the housing and urban planning sector, recognising its central role in supporting social stability, enhancing quality of life, and developing integrated and sustainable residential communities.Her Excellency noted that the rapid developments taking place in the housing sector, accompanied by the expanding use of modern technologies, innovative financing solutions and digital transformation, are opening broader opportunities for GCC states to develop their housing services, enhance their efficiency and sustainability, and provide citizens with more diverse and flexible options.In this context, the Kingdom of Bahrain prepared the Guide to Digital Platforms for Individual Housing Finance in GCC Countries, which was approved by the member states. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to leveraging modern digital solutions to advance the housing finance ecosystem across the GCC.Her Excellency stated that Bahrain’s preparation of the guide demonstrates the importance of practical initiatives in supporting joint Gulf cooperation, strengthening integration, and facilitating the exchange of successful experiences among GCC states, while also benefiting from digital transformation to develop the housing finance ecosystem and expand the options available to citizens.Her Excellency also highlighted the importance of the GCC ministerial meeting coinciding with the second edition of the Social Housing Innovation Conference and Exhibition 2026, providing an opportunity to enhance the exchange of expertise, explore innovative solutions and practices, and support greater Gulf cooperation and integration in the housing sector.The meeting’s agenda included a number of priority topics aimed at advancing joint Gulf cooperation in the housing sector, including the development of housing policies and programmes, sustainable urban planning, the development of legislation and guidelines, partnerships with the private sector and financial institutions, as well as leveraging modern technologies and digital transformation and enhancing the exchange of expertise, experiences and information among GCC member states.
