Her Excellency Mrs. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, participated in the activities of "Tree Week" by planting a number of trees in Al Hadd Housing City, with the participation of a number of ministry officials who contributed to planting seedlings in Salman City, Khalifa City, and Sitra Housing City.
During the event, Her Excellency the Minister stressed that afforestation is a pivotal element in sustainable urban planning, as it plays a major role in supporting the environmental balance within modern urban communities, enhancing biodiversity in cities, and increasing the green area in various regions of the Kingdom, which contributes to improving the quality of life in residential communities.
Minister Al Rumaihi explained that the ministry will continue its role in supporting the afforestation plan, which aims to double the number of trees in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 1.8 million to about 3.6 million trees by 2035, in line with the Kingdom's commitments to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26).
Her happiness pointed out that these initiatives embody the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to supporting environmental trends, increasing the green area, sustaining natural resources, and improving the quality of life, stressing that this initiative represents a practical step towards providing an integrated and healthy housing environment.
The Minister also praised the effective partnership with private sector institutions and civil initiatives, which contributed directly to afforestation projects in various governorates of the Kingdom, including Bahrain's housing cities, expressing the Ministry's aspiration to continue cooperation to achieve the Kingdom's environmental and development goals.
