His Excellency Mr. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Electricity and Water Authority, His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Works, His Excellency Mr. Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and His Excellency Ms. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, made an inspection visit to the East Sitra Housing Project, to inspect Construction work for residential units, in addition to the infrastructure services currently underway in the project.
During the visit, the completion rates in the implementation of housing units in the first and second phases of the project were reviewed, in addition to following up on plans to connect the project to the main road network and the implementation of sewage networks, in addition to inspecting the completion rates of electricity and water networks.
His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of the Electricity and Water Authority, stated that the Authority has completed 80% of the required work in the electricity and water networks, with the aim of providing the East Sitra Housing Project in its first phase with what is necessary, according to the timetable agreed upon by all parties, at a total cost. An approximate amount of approximately 23 million Bahraini dinars, and work on this project will be completed as soon as the required construction work is completed.
His Excellency indicated that about 1,077 homes within the first phase of the project will be equipped with electricity and water networks, provided that the work carried out by the Authority in the project will be completed during next December and the remaining work will be completed in a way that ensures the efficiency, quality and sustainability of services for the project’s beneficiaries. It also seeks to Developing and configuring these networks according to the highest international specifications and standards.
In turn, His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Works, stressed the continuity of work to keep pace with the urban development witnessed by the Kingdom, by providing integrated infrastructure for new housing cities in a way that contributes to achieving development goals and Bahrain’s economic vision 2030.
His Excellency explained that the East Sitra Housing Project represents one of the most important and leading strategic projects in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as it includes a large number of residential units and various facilities and services, stressing that the Ministry will work to provide outlets for the housing project through the construction of East Sitra Street, in addition to developing Sheikh Street. Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh and the development of Street No. 1, in order to provide chain outlets for the East Sitra Housing Project to serve residents and facilitate their transportation.
His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim Al-Hawaj added that the East Sitra Street construction project will connect the housing project to the road network with four lanes in each direction with a right of way (65 metres) wide, with the establishment of a sea crossing at the northern outlet of the project with a width of (50 metres) and a second sea crossing at the southern outlet with a width of 50 metres. (55 metres). This street will also be connected to the main road network via Sheikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Street to the north, passing through Street 1, and from there to the Bapco tanks intersection in the south.
For her part, Her Excellency Mrs. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, stated that the completion rates for the implementation of the first phase of the East Sitra housing project, which includes 1,077 housing units, has reached very advanced stages and reached 90%, indicating that the construction work of the housing units has actually been completed. The current units are going through the final finishing stage. In addition to the completion of the implementation of 70 electricity substations, the Ministry’s work team was directed to the necessity of continuing work at an accelerated pace with the aim of completing the delivery of the first phase units according to the specified timetable.
The Minister also touched on the latest developments in the plan to supply the housing project with secondary infrastructure networks, as she indicated that the implementation of a 19-kilometre-long sewage network has been completed, in addition to the completion of laying 14 kilometers of rainwater lines, in addition to completing the extension of 18 kilometers of pipelines. Water, and 51 kilometers of electricity cables and lighting poles.
The minister added that the project work teams have completed the civil works of the communications network, and work is currently underway to implement street paving works with asphalt, while work is currently underway to finish irrigation lines and sidewalks.
