A number of editors-in-chief and members of local newspapers conducted a field tour of a number of work sites that fall within the scope of the Muharraq City Development Plan, along with His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, His Excellency Mr. Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and His Excellency Mrs. Amna bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, His Excellency Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Information, His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat, CEO of the Urban Planning and Development Authority, and His Excellency Sheikh Mishal bin Mohammed. Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Khaled Al-Arifi, CEO of the National Contact Center.
The field tour comes within the framework of informing the local press and national media of the project implementation plan, which comes in implementation of the Royal Order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and President. The Council of Ministers, may God protect him, by preserving the historical and cultural identity of the buildings and cities of Bahrain, and reviving Isa Al-Kabir Palace and the neighborhoods known as Muharraq City.
The tour included a visit to the Issa Grand Palace, the Pearling Path, and a number of Muharraq’s houses that reflect the authentic urban character of its historical and cultural identity. During the tour, development plans were reviewed, which are based on 5 axes, including preserving the historical identity of the city of Muharraq, and providing housing units that meet the aspirations of the family. Bahrain, preserving buildings of heritage value, increasing the green area in the region and diversifying its afforestation, in addition to developing infrastructure services and public facilities.
An explanation was also given about the details of the work plan, which includes developing areas of about 1.4 million square metres, in addition to restoring 16 buildings of heritage value within the framework of preserving them and completing the Pearling Path, and using them in cultural and tourism activities, in addition to increasing the green area in the region and diversifying it. Afforestation there, by providing 72 green squares with an area of up to 12,000 square metres, planting 100,000 trees there, and developing 48 square kilometers of traffic and pedestrian corridors, in addition to providing parking lots to accommodate residents and visitors to the areas.
The guideline organizing the development process was discussed, which includes a number of engineering and artistic models inspired by the ancient architectural character of Muharraq, including the buildings, roads, and alleys it contains, reflecting the original historical fragrance of the city, in addition to the design controls for reconstruction, and the design controls for building facades. And others related to infrastructure and designs for afforestation areas.
For their part, the editors-in-chief and employees of local newspapers renewed their appreciation for the Royal Order to develop the city of Muharraq, which reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to preserve the historical and cultural identity of the buildings and cities of Bahrain, stressing that the plans drawn up to implement the project will undoubtedly contribute to achieving the goal of citizens remaining in their original homes, and their return to their homes. The old neighborhoods after their redevelopment and restoration, stressing that the national press will continue to support the comprehensive development process, and will remain a major partner in highlighting the record of the bright national achievements of the Bahrain team.
