The housing bank was established in 1979, with the aim of providing real-estate financing for citizens with low and middle income. The housing bank succeeded in achieving growth and development, and became a strategic partner to the Ministry of Housing, in regards to providing comprehensive and sustainable housing solutions for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The housing bank is completely owned by the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and is considered the strategic partner and economic advisor to the Ministry of Housing. The ministry and the bank work together to create innovative solutions for the housing sector on a global level. It doesn't just provide high quality housing units for Bahrainis in a safe society, it also supports the government financially to achieve innovation and economic growth, and enhance efforts to achieve sustainable economic development for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The housing bank has a vital role in supporting the kingdom’s economic vision 2030, through comprehensive and innovative solutions, in cooperation with government authorities, Bahraini banks, and private sector institutions.
